How BytePad handles your data. The short version: we collect as little as possible.
BytePad is a native macOS text editor that runs entirely on your Mac. Your documents, files, and editor content never leave your device. We do not have access to anything you write, open, or edit in the app.
BytePad does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. The app does not contain analytics, crash reporting, telemetry, or tracking of any kind. We do not know who you are, what files you open, or how you use the app.
The app stores your preferences (such as theme and editor settings) and session data (open tabs, editor state) locally on your Mac. Trial status is stored in the macOS Keychain. All of this data remains entirely on your device and is never sent to us or any third party.
BytePad offers a one-time in-app purchase to unlock full access after the free trial. This transaction is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or process any payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs these transactions.
BytePad does not make any network requests to our servers. The only network activity is Apple's StoreKit framework communicating with the App Store for in-app purchase verification, which is managed by Apple.
The bytepad.app website uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. This may collect anonymized data such as pages visited, referral source, browser type, and approximate geographic region. No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics.
We do not sell, rent, or share any personal information with third parties. The only third-party interaction is:

BytePad Pro is a native macOS text editor that runs entirely on your Mac. Your documents, files, and editor content never leave your device. We do not have access to anything you write, open, or edit in the app.
When you activate a license, the app sends your license key and a hardware identifier to our server (api.bytepad.app) to validate and bind the license. The hardware identifier is a one-way derived ID used solely to enforce the 2-device limit. We do not collect your name, email, or any other personal information through the app itself.
BytePad Pro periodically contacts api.bytepad.app to check for new versions. These requests include only your current app version and macOS version so we can serve the correct update. No personal data is transmitted.
Your license key is stored securely in the macOS Keychain. Session data (open tabs, editor state) is saved locally to your Application Support folder. All of this stays on your Mac and is never sent to us.
The BytePad Pro application does not contain any analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry frameworks. We do not track how you use the app, what files you open, or how often you use it.
